Every month, we will feature a neighbourhood, and today’s #FeatureFriday spotlight is Burnaby.
As a company, we were originally based in Burnaby. During our time there, we took full advantage of the local restaurants and even the local parks for work get-togethers and annual scavenger hunts. We got to know the surrounding neighbourhoods and a lot of what Burnaby has to offer. Therefore, as one of the top local moving companies near you, we’ve collected a lot of “insider info”.
Burnaby is British Columbia’s third-largest city, which is easy to access thanks to public transportation. Downtown Vancouver can be reached within 30 minutes by Skytrain. Burnaby is rapidly developing and it has a lot to offer both locals and visitors.
Here are the reasons why you should move to Burnaby.
Parks
Burnaby has beautiful parks where you can relax, walk, run and exercise. The largest of the parks called Central Park. Central Park is located near Patterson station.
It is 222 acres of green space that’s home to a temperate rainforest ecosystem, an award-winning children’s playground, lots of walking trails, a mini golf course, tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool and more. Burnaby Central Railway, is a place that not even many locals know about. It is a miniature railway park where people of all ages can go for a ride on a miniature train.

Education
Whether you’re a parent or a student yourself. You will be pleased to find that Burnaby has an abundance of education options. Not only is there the standard city school board (Burnaby School District), but it is the home to not one, but two major institutions in British Columbia: Simon Fraser University (SFU) and The British Columbia Institute (BCIT).
Burnaby is also home to the Burnaby Public Library, which has four locations. Although they’re currently closed at the time this blog post was written, the public library is a great place to visit to read the latest novels or to keep your children entertained. You can always go online to read e-books or rent CDs and DVDs.

Museums
There are many interesting places where you can spend your free time in Burnaby, including Burnaby Village Museum, where children will enjoy riding on the historic carousel. Not only that, but there is also the Nikkei Place, a national museum and Japanese cultural centre. They have weekly workshops and events such as tea ceremonies and kimono dressing classes.
Burnaby Mountain
Burnaby Mountain has something for everyone too. It has incredible views of Vancouver where you can have a picnic and enjoy the sunset. There are also multi-use trails on Burnaby Mountain perfect for beginners, advanced hikers and cyclists.
Brentwood
The Brentwood Solo area is an up and coming area that features shopping and residential areas. The shopping includes Whole Foods, BC Liquor Store, Shoppers Drug Mart, and many more. It is easily accessible by transit through the Brentwood Skytrain station. Brentwood is a growing community — what started out as a single mall now has towers of apartment buildings.
Metropolis at Metrotown
If you move to Burnaby, you have easy access to Metropolis at Metrotown, British Columbia’s largest shopping mall, which also happens to be the third-largest in Canada. Need shoes? You can go to Metrotown. Need a new outfit? Metrotown. Looking for a specific cuisine that you can’t put your finger on? Try Metrotown! There are over 60 food retailers.
Metrotown has over 450 retailers, which includes a Cineplex movie theatre. Although the theatre is closed at the time this blog post was written, it is still a good option to have to catch your latest Hollywood flicks for the future.
The Metrotown area is constantly growing, with an increase in residential areas in recent years. It has changed a lot over the years, and will continue to change.
Senior Centres
There are also great senior centres in Burnaby, a perfect home for senior citizens. Burnaby has a lot to offer for all ages and would be a good place to live in.

No.1 Beef Noodle House (@jynoodle)
Located on the intersection of Willingdon Avenue and Moscrop Street, near Deer Lake Parkway, Beef Noodle House is our favourite Taiwanese place. Featuring classic beef noodles, it’s definitely our favourite for company dinners! The best things to get are the crispy chicken and the no.1 beef noodle soup.
Anton’s Pasta bar is known for their enormous servings.

On 4260 Hastings Street, Anton’s Pasta Bar is known for their enormous servings and a wide variety of pastas to choose from. With delicious fresh pasta, they’re sure to become a favourite in your household! One of our favourites is the Linguine Alle Vongole with cream sauce.
La Foret Cafe is a restaurant, patisserie and cafe with 84 seats. Located on 6848 Jubilee Avenue, what used to be a 5000 square feet auto body shop is now a beautiful cafe featuring handcrafted espresso drinks and delectable pastries. We like to order iced chocolate with the almond croissant.
Located at 4739 Willingdon Ave, Sushi S is your best bet for inexpensive but surely delicious sushi fare. Try the Volcano Roll, you won’t be disappointed!
The One serves delectable Taiwanese fare.

Another one of our favourites is The One, another Taiwanese restaurant found on 5908 Kingsway. We love the Sliced Beef in Pancake, Taiwanese Sausage Fried Rice, Deep-Fried Tentacles, Kimchi Fried Rice, Spicy Wontons, Tendon Soup, and their large “Hurricane” Slush Bubble Teas.
